Can you still play Restaurant City in 2026?
Restaurant City officially shut down in 2012. Bistro City is an independent project for people who want to experience classic restaurant-game play again.
If that is what you are looking for, you can play Bistro City in your browser. Below is what happened to the original game, and what Bistro City does and does not offer.
What happened to Restaurant City?
Restaurant City was made by Playfish and launched on Facebook in 2009. Electronic Arts acquired Playfish in November 2009, and Restaurant City closed on 29 June 2012. Since then the official game has not been available on Facebook or anywhere else.
The game was also built for Flash, a browser technology that modern browsers no longer support.
What is Bistro City?
Bistro City is an independent restaurant-management game inspired by Restaurant City. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Playfish or Electronic Arts.
If you played the original, a lot will feel familiar:
- You hire staff as cooks, waiters and cleaners, and they get tired as they work.
- Your menu is split into starters, mains, desserts and drinks, and you level each dish up to level 10 with ingredients.
- Ingredients have rarities from one to five stars, and you can trade them with friends.
- There is a garden, a daily food quiz, friends' restaurants to help, and a street to explore.
Bistro City also goes further than the original in a few places:
- Levels go up to 100 (the original stopped at 65).
- Restaurants can grow to 29×29 tiles.
- It is available in 12 languages.
- It runs in a modern web browser on phone or desktop, with no Flash needed.

What Bistro City doesn't have yet
Today Bistro City has no seasonal dishes, no dedicated mobile apps and no Facebook connection.
- Seasonal dishes: the game data includes 28 seasonal event recipes from the original holiday events, but they have not reopened yet. 75 recipes are available now.
- Mobile apps: Bistro City is played in the browser, on phone or desktop. Dedicated Android and iOS apps are in development.
- Facebook: Bistro City uses its own accounts and does not post to Facebook, so friends are added through Bistro City accounts.
